Hate to Say We Told You So, But Yeah We Told You So

Well, at least we saw this thing coming. iPad 2 is thinner, with better hardware and two cameras. Jobs and the gang boasted some questionable statements about the competition, even using terms such as, “copycat.” Hate to say it but it seems like Apple is the best copycat of their own devices, because it seems they recycle the same thing over and over again. Let’s look at what we know so far in regards to the iPad 2′s specs:

  • iOS 4.3 (New)
  • 9.7″ LED backlit IPS LCD ( Same as current iPad)
  • 1024 x 768 resolution (Same as current iPad)
  • Front facing VGA camera (New)
  • 1GHz dual-core A5 processor (New)
  • 3G and Wifi (802.11a./b/g/n) connectivity (Verizon & AT&T)
  • Bluetooth (2.1 + EDR)
  • 3 axis accelerometer (Same as current iPad)
  • 3 axis gyroscope (New)
  • 8.8mm thick (New) Old iPad is: 13.4mm

All this can be yours starting on March 11th. As far as pricing goes: $499 for 16GB, $599 for 32GB, and $699 for 64GB and 3G models: $629 for 16GB, $729 for 32GB, and $829 for 64GB (Verizon & AT&T). The biggest news is the new processor and the thinner body. The device also comes in two colors (black and white). Sadly we’re still stuck with the same display, too bad those Retina display rumors washed out. As of writing this we’re unsure of the primary camera’s resolution, we’re banking on 5-MP, but we’re not sure. We do know it shoots 720p HD video. We’ll have more info as it comes, but we’d like to know did this thing live up to your expectations?

Apple Keynote Recap, New Apple TV and iPods Revealed

Mr. Jobs and company opened the floodgates and let the products flow free for all to see. All devices are available for pre-order today! The new iPod Shuffle has physical buttons, a rear clip, VoiceOver, and playlist. Coming in five different colors and offering 2GB of storage (15 hours of music) and a price tag of $49, you’ll get a lot for a little.

The new iPod Nano offers a multi-touch display and has an iOS-style operating system with multiple home screens showcasing four onscreen icons at a time. The device will also display album art and photos. There will be two models available an 8GB priced at $149 and 16GB priced at $179.

The new thinner iPod Touch will offer Retina display, A4 chip, gyroscope, front-facing camera with FaceTime, rear-facing camera with HD video recording, and iOS 4.1. The device will also support iMovie and FaceTime will work with iPhone 4 and other iPod Touches via WiFi. There will be three models: 8 GB $229, 32 GB $299, 64 GB $399.

The revamped Apple TV is much, much smaller (about one-fourth the size of the original Apple TV)  and offers a variety of connectivity options: HDMI, digital audio outputs, Ethernet and 802.11n WiFi. This new device hobby will also offer rentals from iTunes. No word on internal storage (guess that’s how they got it so small?) but the new Apple TV will stream content. HD movies will rent for $4.99 the same day as the DVD release and HD TV shows from FOX and ABC for 99¢. Speaking of streaming there will also be Netflix, Youtube and, MobileMe support this time around. Apple’s new AirPlay will allow it’s users to stream and share content from one iOS device to another. The new Apple TV ships in about four weeks and comes with a remote control. Our favorite part is the new affordable price tag of $99.

Conclusion

We pretty much got everything we expected but in the end we’re happy with that. As we mentioned you can start pre-ordering all these goodies which you might wanna do now while the getting is good. Either that or start saving money for insanely inflated Ebay auctions.

Apple Press Conference Recap

Apple now has a video of today’s conference up for everyone to watch. Jobs downplayed the recent antenna issues saying that only a small fraction of customers have reported the issue. Also in a way of saying sorry without saying sorry, Apple will be giving away free cases to iPhone 4 users. Check out the video for the complete lowdown.
