After months of waiting and a run of oddball commercials, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play finally has a stateside release date. May 26th will be the day that Verizon customers can pick up the PlayStation certified smartphone for a price of $200 on a two-year contract. We all remember Sony’s creepy, oddball Super Bowl commercial, heck Sony gaming devices tend to have weird commercials in general. As we draw closer to the Xperia Play’s release, what else could you expect but more commercials à la Addams Family. Take a look at the new advertisements for this vanilla Android gaming goody coming to a TV near you, creepy ads after the break.
We knew it was real. We knew it was coming, but we didn’t know when and where. Now that’s all changed, well sorta. The Xperia Play handheld which Joe Q. Public likes to refer to as the PlayStation Phone will be hitting retail this March and appears to be exclusive to Verizon, at least for the time being. As far as official specs go here is what you can expect from the first PlayStation certified smartphone: 1GHz Snapdragon processor, Adreno GPU, Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) , 5-megapixel camera(LED flash), 8GB microSD, and stereo headphones. The Xperia Play will also come pre-loaded with Asphalt Adrenaline 6, Bruce Lee, Star Battalion, The Sims 3, Tetris, and will ship with an additional 50 titles at launch. So we know you’re completely sold, but there’s one catch, no exact date (just March for now) and no price yet. Be sure to check out the promo video, which will only further excite you. Remember those creepy PS3 commercials, you know with the crying baby doll? Well in typical Sony fashion they’re marketing department is at it again. The Xperia Play better known as the PlayStation Phone, but also known as Sony’s worst kept secret since the PSP Go, apparently has a commercial already. If this isn’t the real thing it sure is one great piece of fan made fiction. Come on Sony! Come clean admit it, this thing exist! Or did you guys not get the memo?
